Fears about African swine fever have led World Pork Expo organizers to cancel this year’s show.
The show, normally scheduled for June in Des Moines, Iowa, annually attracts more than 20,000 attendees.
The National Pork Producers board of directors, which organizes the event, noted that many show visitors are from parts of the world where African swine fever has been found — enhancing the potential of the disease to be spread to the United States.
The World Pork Expo has been held annually since 1987.
