Farmers throughout the nation are sending truckloads of hay for livestock in areas affected by severe flooding in Iowa and Nebraska. Hay donations, including several from Wisconsin, were organized during the past week to be hauled to the flooded areas.
Meanwhile, U. S. agriculture secretary Sonny Perdue has directed
U.S. Department of Agriculture staff to work with farmers in those areas, with the potential for low-interest emergency loans or other assistance programs possibly available.
“While farmers and ranchers in the area are resilient, the
pain is real. We will do everything in our power at USDA to be as helpful as we possibly can.” Perdue said.
