A two-month extension has been added to Eau Claire County’s confined animal feeding operation moratorium.
The Eau Claire County Board on Tuesday night extended the moratorium that originally had been approved in October as a six-month moratorium put into place while a working group develops a new county CAFO ordinance. The extension takes the moratorium’s end from April to June.
County land conservation director Greg Leonard, who’s been working on the ordinance, said the working committee asked for the moratorium extension to allow more time for the committee to finalize the ordinance.
The ordinance, which Leonard said would take the county to regulatory levels established by state CAFO rules, is nearly completed.
“It’ll now match the statewide rules,” Leonard said.
The committee will meet again on March 26; the ordinance then will be considered by county board committees and then would require two readings by the county board before it could be finalized.
