North America’s largest organic farming conference is back in La Crosse for it’s 30th annual show. The Midwest Organic Sustainable Education Service (MOSES) organizes the event and expects over 3,500 attendees at the La Crosse Center.
While many in the struggling conventional market may wonder if the grass is greener in organics – there’s more to it then just production. That’s according to Jessie Bovay, Business Development Director at Mercaris. Mercaris was formed in 2012 by businessmen that were accustomed to “thinly traded markets” like dairy and organics. They have created a marketing platform that let’s organic growers with as little as one truck load of organic grain, to market it to buyers across the country.
Jessie Bovay will be one of the panelists addressing the organic marketing challenges during the MOSES Convention on Saturday, beginning at 3:30. She spoke with Farm Director, Pam Jahnke, about the unique challenges that organic farmers face in capitalizing on market prices when they’re somewhat insulated, and are dealing in small and unique products.

Jessie Bovay, director of business development at Mercaris, will join Carmen Fernholz of OFARM and CJ Eisler of Pipeline Foods as a panelist at the conference’s Field Crop workshop — Organic Grain Marketing. Covering the marketing landscape for organic producers, the session will offer guidance when looking for reliable buyers, trustworthy representation in the marketplace and tools for robust price discovery.
“As grain marketing experts, we’re excited to analyze trends and deliver informed perspectives for this year’s workshop attendees,” said Jessie Bovay, director of business development at Mercaris. “It’s an honor to contribute to such a knowledgeable panel of industry professionals, helping educate today’s farmers and agriculture professionals for sustainable growth.”
Hosted by the Midwest Organic & Sustainable Education Service (MOSES) for its 30th year, the three-day event will house over 3,500 participants, 60 workshops and 170 industry vendors, bringing together the strongest network of U.S. organic and sustainable farming peers from around the country. Participants will gain practical ideas to improve their farms, discover new resources and further connect with their community.
