Brenda Boetel, a University of Wisconsin-River Falls commodity marketing specialist, said trade policy is among the most important issues farmers are facing.
The United States leaving the Trans Pacific Partnership is among those trade issues, with Japan not importing as much beef as it has in recent years.
“We really need to get a bilateral agreement with Japan,” she said.
Beef and pork export markets have remained relatively strong though, according to Boetel, even though tariffs have hurt the pork-export market to China.
