Truckers who haul livestock last week were exempted from electronic log-book requirements.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has ruled that those truckers will no longer be required to use electronic logging devices in their rigs. In 2012, new laws said all drivers of commercial motor vehicles had to replace their paper logs with electronic devices by the end of 2017. But the livestock industry complained that hauling livestock long distances was not compatible with the DOT’s hours-of-service rules.
A temporary waiver was granted earlier this year, but the latest decision means a permanent ruling about the issue.
