A team of Wisconsin 4-H Extension colleagues were recognized at the 2016 Wisconsin Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals annual awards and recognition banquet on Tuesday, April 19th at the Chula Vista Resort, WI Dells.
Pam Jahnke, also known to many as the Fabulous Farm Babe, received the Friend of 4-H Award from the Wisconsin Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals (WAE4-HYDP) at their annual conference on Tuesday, April 19th in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.
The Friend of WAE4-HYDP Award is designed to honor individuals, organizations, or businesses who are not WAE4-HYDP members but who have given substantial support to WAE4-HYDP at a multi-county or state level. This may include supporting the WAE4-HYDP mission, program philosophy, educational effort, personal services, leadership, and/or financial support.
Bernie O’Rourke, Extension Youth Livestock Specialist, UW-Madison, Alissa Grenawalt, Extension Outreach Specialist, UW-Madison, were recognized for winning the Educational Technology Team Award. This award recognizes excellence use of technology (such as computers, video, satellite, web pages, etc.) in delivering or managing educational programs, expanding use of technology education in 4-H, or promoting logical problem-solving techniques using educational technologies.
Their program has focused on using relevant technology to reach out to Wisconsin families who are involved in 4-H and other youth livestock organizations and keeping them abreast of project related updates, opportunities and other information. From 2002 to 2010, much of the outreach and information sharing of upcoming programs was promoted with the Wisconsin 4-H Website and through the UW-Madison Department of Animal Science Extension webpage. Over time UW-Extension moved toward blog pages to share information. This was the beginning of taking ownership and creating a system to connect with UW-Extension staff, clientele and other interested stakeholder sharing and promoting information and resources to our target audience, youth livestock families and supporters. Now families can keep in touch with updates on the blog page as well as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more.
This award application will be forwarded to the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents (NAE4-HA) for regional and national award consideration where if selected will be recognized at the 2016 NAE4-HA conference to be held this fall in New Orleans, LA.
