Just a few minutes south of Madison down a picturesque country road you will find Havens Petting Farm. This time of the year you may actually hear the farm before you see it. Logan Havens and his family have been hard at work all winter and early spring, taking care of hundreds of animals for you and your family to come enjoy. The Havens were inspired by all the fun that their own kids, along with nephews and nieces, have playing with baby animals and decided they needed to share this experience with everyone. So they decided to open a petting farm.
Logan says “we already had a menagerie of different furry and cuddly animals. Why not let everyone come learn about the farm and all the farm animals while having fun”?
Baby lambs, goats, a plethora of different-colored chickens and ducks along with rabbits and pot belly pigs for you to pick up and cuddle.
The Havens invite you out to the Farm this weekend and every weekend in April. Our own Bryant Gill took Logan up on an offer to come out for a behind-the-scenes look at what’s happening at the petting farm this spring. To his amazement, over 100 different baby lambs and goats greeted him. Bryant learned about all the different breeds of rabbits and ducks, along with chickens and peacocks; there were even pony rides for the kids. It was very exciting because he even got to see a baby lamb being born and Havens said “this is what it’s all about. Learning and making memories and this makes 99 lambs born this spring”.
For a small admission, youngsters and adults alike can get a hands-on experience with all different types of farm animals. You can even feed the animals which makes them your best friend. The farm experience doesn’t stop there, as kids and adults are invited to dive into the Havens’ giant corn pile, yes that’s right – a tractor tire filled to the brim with shelled field corn. If you thought a sand box was fun to play in, then you’re in for a treat.
Visiting Logan and the crew at Havens’ Petting Farm needs to be on your “TO DO” list this spring
