Well I turned into a cooking fiend with this weeks fresh produce from JenEhr! Rarely do I have enough time to actually pause and think about what kind of meal I’m going to pull together – let alone really enjoy! Sometimes it’s just fill the space and keep moving.
This week – before I traveled to the WI Agribusiness Council Auction – I decided to sincerely try and give some of the new treats in my CSA bag an honest opportunity to impress me. And let me tell you – Jahnke is a fan of Romanesco! Kathy told me it’s the great-great grandfather of the broccoli – with a cauliflower slight of hand. I jumped on the internet while the pots of water were boiling to look for some basic advice on preparation (outside of Kathy’s sage wisdom at JenEhr).
Note – I was still multi-tasking at the same time. I had the one pot of boiling water blanch my farm fresh cauliflower head for immediate freezing. It also cooked up my farm fresh spuds for some bacon, onion and butter sauteeing this weekend. At the same time I got a smaller sauce pan boiling for some pasta to go with my Romanesco.
Once I had the Romanesco boiled – I decided to use a little garlic salt, virgin olive oil, and ground pepper to do a little sampling. Loved it! Slighlty different taste than what I was thinking originally – but nothing that really surprised me. Biggest problem – small head – big appetite!
So – there’s this weeks discovery from the Farm Babe’s perspective. How about you? How’s your summer growing, tasting, learning experience coming along? Let us know!
