Wisconsin corn production is forecast at 530 million bushels according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The latest crop production report says that based on conditions as of Nov. 1, yields are expected to average 171 bushels per acre, up 6 bushels per acre from the Oct. 1 forecast but down 9 bushels per acre from last year. Corn planted acreage is estimated at 4 million acres, with an estimated 3.1 million acres to be harvested for grain.
In an interview with Mid-West Farm Report earlier this week, market advisor John Heinberg with Total Farm Marketing in West Bend said the talk among growers is that the yields are looking better than expected.
“One thing I’ve been hearing a lot from producers over the last two weeks… the constant comment is how good the corn crop is, and how much corn we have,” he says. “It just feels like the corn crop is in pretty good shape.”
Soybean production is forecast at 101 million bushels. The yield is forecast at 49 bushels per acre, up 5 bushels from the October forecast but down 5 bushels from 2022. Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 2.1 million acres with 2.07 million acres to be harvested.
Potato production in Wisconsin is forecast at 29.8 million cwt, up 12 percent from 2022. Yield is forecast at 435 cwt per acre, with an expected 68,500 acres to be harvested.
The forecasts do not reflect weather effects after Nov. 1. The next corn and soybean production estimates will be published in the Crop Production Annual Summary report on Jan. 12.
