Wisconsin egg production during September was 203 million eggs, up 41 percent from the previous September, according to the latest report from USDA. The state’s comeback from the avian flu is well over the national average.
However, September is the fourth month of decline for Wisconsin egg production. In August, Wisconsin egg production was 215 million eggs. NASS State Statistician Greg Bussler says this is a seasonal fluctuation.
The National Agricultural Statistics Service also says in Wisconsin, the number of all layers on hand during September was 7.8 million, up 37 percent from last year. Eggs per 100 layers for September was 2,607, up 3 percent from a year ago.
Looking at the entire U.S., egg production totaled 9.16 billion during September, up 3 percent from last year.
The average number of layers during September totaled 387 million, up 3 percent from last year. September egg production per 100 layers was 2,367 eggs, up slightly from September 2022.
