Sinsinawa Mound Center invites food enthusiast and producers to join in on their 2018 Tri-State Local Food Summit. The summit will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10.
Sinsinawa Mound aims for the summit to be a celebration of Social and Ecological Justice in the Heartland. The event topic includes; everything from healthy soil to racial justice, native food sovereignty and edible landscaping. The overall goal of the day is educating, inspiring, challenging, and connecting with people, the land, and a more just food system.
To help educate and inspire attendees the summit includes talks, break-out sessions, networking opportunities with exhibitors, and a locally sourced lunch. Keynote speakers are Autumn Brown and Scott Koepke. Brown has over 10 years of experience facilitating organizational and strategic development with community-based and movement organizations. Koepke teaches life skills through gardening in the “Handcuffs to Hand Plows” program at the Linn County Detention Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville, a prison.
The conference fee is $25, and the registration deadline is Feb. 2.
