The Dane County Farmers’ Market invites all of Wisconsin to attend their special 45th Anniversary market this Saturday, September 16th.
The Dane County Farmers’ Market has come a long way from the 11 farmers who showed up to vend on that first Saturday in September 1972. Today there are approximately 275 vendors that bring their products to the market each season. In fact, the Dane County Farmers Market is reported to be the largest producer-only farmers’ market in the country. Producer-only farmers’ markets only include items produced by the members behind the tables, there is no re-sale allowed. This means that when you visit the Dane County Farmers’ Market, you can truly get to know the people who grow and raise your food.
To commemorate the 45th anniversary the Dane County Farmers’ Market will be hosting a variety of family friendly activities such as a coloring contest, free bike rides, and of course tasty local foods.
The vendors through out the market will also be celebrating the anniversary with special deals, free giveaways, funny costumes, quizzes and games.
Examples of how vendors are celebrating the 45th Anniversary:
- Knapp’s Fresh Vegies will have deals on bags of squash, cabbage, and broccoli.
- Hook’s Cheese will be giving away Dane County Farmers Market gift cards.
- Travelin’ Gypsy Bakery will host a quiz to test atendee’s knowledge about the Market – winners will receive a free cookie.
