Staff from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection will be available to answer questions and provide information to visitors at the 2017 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days, scheduled July 11-13 in Kewaunee County.
“Farm Technology Days allows farmers and consumers to talk one-on-one with us about current issues and concerns,” says DATCP Secretary Ben Brancel. “We look forward to meeting with visitors to discuss topics from nutrient management to consumer protection and provide information about available services for farms and businesses. Each year I look forward to attending the event to hear from the agricultural community, share information about the program and services provided by DATCP, and see the latest in ag technology and learn about advances in research and production.”
Farm Technology Days is being hosted July 11-13 this year by Kewaunee County at Ebert Enterprises in Algoma. The show runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.
This year, DATCP will have three booths in the Progress Pavilion, located in Tent City on the Farm Tech Days grounds. One booth will be a general DATCP booth where staff will answer questions and provide information on a wide variety of programs administered by DATCP, from food safety and animal health-related programs, to international exporting programs, to services provided to farmers by DATCP’s Wisconsin Farm Center. While visiting the booth, members of the public can try their hand at an interactive Q&A game focusing on questions, issues and topics addressed by DATCP.
A second DATCP booth in the Progress Pavilion will provide information on nutrient management programs and services, including Producer-Led Watershed Protection grants intended to help farmers find solutions best suited for their particular watersheds and increase farmer participation in these voluntary efforts. Nutrient management staff will also challenge attendees to a game of “manure toss” to learn more about pesticide and fertilizer application. A third booth in the Progress Pavilion will be manned by staff from the Wisconsin Agricultural Statistics Service.
In the Family Living Tent, Bureau of Consumer Protection staff will answer questions about common consumer complaints such as telemarketing, landlord/tenant issues and identity theft. Consumers will be able to take home information to protect themselves against common scams.
