Wisconsin may be known at the Dairy State but, We sure can grow corn and Soybeans well too…
The USDA released its Wisconsin 2015 Crop Production report on Tuesday. The report states that farmers in the Badger State produced approximately 492 million bushels of corn for grain. The average yield for corn grain was set at 164 bushels per acre which is a new all time state record. 2015’s average yield per acre was three bushels higher than the previous record high yield set back in 2010. Corn for silage production was estimated at 18.9 million tons, which is up an amazing 20 % from 2014. With an estimated yield of 19.5 tons per which represents an increase of about one ton per acre.
Wisconsin Soybean production was impressive as well with an estimated 92.6 million bushels produced in 2015. Our producers did a great job tending to the crop as the average yield per acre was approximately 49.5 bushels per acre.
Hay production is estimated at 4.07 million tons, which is down 16% from just a year ago as 4.87 million tons were produced in 2014. Wisconsin farmers produced all this hay on 1.51 million acres, about 130,000 less acres than in 2014. The average yield per acre estimate comes in right around 2.7 ton per acre, slightly down from 2014’s 2.97 tons to the acre.
