Lower Lamb Marks Last Week’s Trade

Lower Lamb Marks Last Week’s Trade

Prepared and written by Jeff Swenson, DATCP Livestock and Meat Specialist. The Market Update draws information from several sources, including trade publications, radio broadcasts, agricultural news services, individuals involved in the industry as well as USDA NASS and AMS reports.

Fed lamb prices were $3-$4/cwt lower last week with market ewes $11/cwt lower. The cutout was $1.11 higher at $676.47. Sheep and lamb harvest was estimated to be 34,000, 2,000 head fewer than both the previous week and the same week last year. July lamb and mutton production was 12% lower than last year with harvest down 9%. The average liveweight was four pounds lower than last year at 111 pounds.
