Lamb Stays Steady

Prepared and written by Jeff Swenson, DATCP Livestock and Meat Specialist. The Market Update draws information from several sources, including trade publications, radio broadcasts, agricultural news services, individuals involved in the industry as well as USDA NASS and AMS reports.

Fed lamb prices have stabilized, being called steady last week, with market ewes called steady with strong undertones. The lamb cutout value was about $2 lower last Friday at $675.36. Harvest last week was estimated at 36,000 sheep and lambs, 1,000 more than the previous week and 1,000 fewer than a year ago. The average live weight was 111 pounds last week compared to 115 pounds the same week last year.
