Wisconsin had 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending August 16, 2026, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Despite recent rainfalls, many crops continue to show signs of stress. Some northern counties reported that producers had started chopping corn due to the dry conditions.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 12 percent very short, 26 percent short, 61 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 8 percent very short, 24 percent short, 67 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.
Corn silking was 93 percent complete. Fifty-three percent of corn had reached the dough stage the same as the 5-year average. Corn in the dent stage reached 9 percent. Corn condition was 67 percent good to excellent, down 2 percentage points from last week.
Soybeans blooming reached 96 percent. Eighty-one percent of soybeans were setting pods compared to the average of 78 percent. Soybean condition was 66 percent good to excellent, down 2 percentage points from last week.
Oats were 73 percent harvested compared to the average of 62 percent. Winter wheat was 96 percent harvested compared to the average of 93 percent.
The third cutting of alfalfa hay was 85 percent complete compared to the average of 79 percent.
Pasture and range condition was 51 percent good to excellent, unchanged from last week.
