Wisconsin had 5.6 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending August 9, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Dry conditions persisted with little precipitation received over the past week.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 11 percent very short, 25 percent short, 63 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 8 percent very short, 23 percent short, 67 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus.
Corn silking was 86 percent complete, matching the 5-year average. Thirty-four percent of corn had reached the dough stage. Corn condition was 69 percent good to excellent, down 3 percentage points from last week.
Soybeans blooming reached 93 percent compared to the average of 89 percent. Seventy percent of soybeans were setting pods. Soybean condition was 68 percent good to excellent, down 2 percentage points from last week.
Oats were 57 percent harvested compared to the average of 46 percent. Oat condition was rated 77 percent good to excellent, unchanged from last week. Winter wheat was 85 percent harvested compared to the average of 86 percent.
The third cutting of alfalfa hay was 73 percent complete compared to the average of 66 percent.
Pasture and range condition was 51 percent good to excellent, down 3 percentage points from last week.
