Wisconsin had 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending August 2, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Southern and eastern portions of the state received much needed rainfall, while dry conditions continued in northwestern areas.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 9 percent very short, 21 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 7 percent very short, 20 percent short, 70 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus.
Corn silking was 72 percent complete, even with the 5-year average. Sixteen percent of corn had reached the dough stage. Corn condition was 72 percent good to excellent, down 2 percentage points from last week. Soybeans blooming reached 86 percent compared to the average of 81 percent. Fifty-three percent of soybeans were setting pods. Soybean condition was 70 percent good to excellent, the same as last week.
Oats were 93 percent coloring compared to the average of 90 percent. Oats were 41 percent harvested. Oat condition was rated 77 percent good to excellent, down 2 percentage points from last week. Winter wheat was 69 percent harvested, even with the average.
The third cutting of alfalfa hay was 50 percent complete compared to the average of 47 percent. All hay condition was 70 percent good to excellent, down 3 percentage points from last week.
Pasture and range condition was 54 percent good to excellent, down 3 percentage points from last week.
