Evers Administration Targets Improvements in Infrastructure And Ag Arteries

The 2025-27 Biennial Budget is improving transportation fund revenues by generating nearly $200 million in additional revenue to improve the sustainability of the transportation fund. 

Governor Tony Evers, over his tenure, has secured critical investments for long-term infrastructure improvements, prioritizing specific programs to strengthen agricultural growth and community resilience.

Boosting Markets and Processing

The state continues to support the Wisconsin Initiative for Agricultural Exports (WIAE). This program helped Wisconsin rise to 12th in the nation for agricultural exports, up from 13th in 2021. To further bolster local output, the budget provides:

• $1 million for the Meat Processor Grant Program.
• $800,000 for the Dairy Processor Grant Program.
• $2.4 million for the Meat Inspection Program to ensure product safety and label accuracy.
• $20 million to launch a new state program focused on dairy and agriculture resilience.

Strengthening Food Security

The administration remains committed to connecting local food assistance with regional producers. The budget allocates $10 million to continue the Food Security Initiative, which helps food pantries maintain steady supplies. Additionally, the state committed $3 million to the Tribal Elder Food Security program, ensuring elders have access to nutritious, culturally relevant food.

Advancing Sustainability and Farmer Health

Protecting Wisconsin’s soil and water resources is essential for future generations. The budget addresses this through several key initiatives:

• $2 million for the commercial Nitrogen Optimization Pilot Program to safeguard water and soil.
• $500,000 for the Producer-Led Watershed Protection Grant Program to reduce nonpoint source pollution.
• $1.6 million for a cover crop insurance program, offering farmers $5 per acre in rebates.
• $200,000 to fund mental health resources specifically for farmers and their families.

These strategic investments modernize the state’s approach to the agricultural economy. By fostering innovation and supporting producer health, the administration aims to secure a prosperous future for Wisconsin’s “America’s Dairyland” legacy.
