Wisconsin had 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending July 5, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Temperatures well above normal spurred crop growth while heavy rains fell acros a swath of the state, impeding some field work.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 1 percent very short, 8 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 2 percent very short, 12 percent short, 76 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus.
Corn condition was 82 percent good to excellent, unchanged from last week. Soybeans were 20 percent blooming compared to the 5-year average of 22 percent. Soybean condition was 78 percent good to excellent, unchanged from last week.
Oats were 78 percent headed compared to the average of 80 percent. Oats were 29 percent coloring. Oat condition was rated 81 percent good to excellent, down 1 percentage point from last week. Winter wheat was 74 percent coloring compared to the average of 75 percent. Winter wheat condition was 80 percent good to excellent, up 1 percentage point from last week.
The second cutting of alfalfa hay was 48 percent complete compared to the average of 49 percent. All hay condition was 76 percent good to excellent, up 2 percentage points from last week.
Pasture and range condition was 66 percent good to excellent, up 1 percentage point from last week.
There were not any boots on the ground if 20% bloom soybeans were reported. I would bet my best hat that 100% of the beans are blooming. Someone is lying.
