Mark Moran Joins VAS

VAS is excited to share that Mark Moran has joined the company as Chief Product & Technology Officer (CPTO). In this new role, Moran will lead product management, engineering, data and AI as VAS advances its platform strategy and accelerates innovation across its herd management ecosystem.

Moran brings nearly three decades of experience spanning industrial AI, enterprise platforms and precision agriculture — combining strategic leadership with hands-on product and technology development.

“Mark joins VAS at a pivotal moment as we continue to modernize our platforms and evolve toward systems of intelligence,” said Kevin Coffey, chief executive officer of VAS. “His extensive experience across product, engineering and AI, paired with his knowledge of scaling complex technology organizations, will help us deliver meaningful insights our customers need to move their dairies forward.”

Most recently, Moran served as vice president of Data, Systems & Intelligence for Plant Biotechnology at Bayer Crop Science, where he led a global team of more than 100 engineers and scientists focused on data platforms and AI-enabled R&D. Prior to Bayer, Moran spent 26 years at John Deere, including leading the John Deere Technology Innovation Center and supporting advancements in precision agriculture across autonomy, sensing, IoT, cloud and mobile technologies.

“One of the first things I noticed about the VAS team is their passion for their customers, and their commitment to continuous improvement. At VAS, we have the opportunity to transform trusted on-farm data into actionable intelligence that drives better outcomes for dairy producers,” said Moran. “I’m excited to work with the team to deepen alignment from strategy through execution, enhancing what we deliver today while expanding what’s possible for the future.”

Moran holds a bachelor’s degree in General Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, an MBA from the University of Iowa, a master’s degree in System Design & Management from MIT and a doctorate in Informatics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
