Swaindale Genetics, a seventh-generation family farm, in Deerfield, will host this year’s Breakfast on the Farm, set for Saturday, June 13. For over 45 years, Dane County Breakfast on the Farm organizers have selected a local farm to welcome thousands of visitors. Visitors enjoy a hearty meal and encourage them to learn where their food comes from.
Swaindale Genetics is owned and operated by Gary Swain and Dana Kelly, along with their three children, Danny, Bella and Lena. Farming is a family affair at Swaindale Genetics. Gary, Dana, the kids and Scott, Gary’s brother, are the day-to-day help, and Bob and Lois Swain, Gary and Scott’s parents, assist with fieldwork. The family currently milks 30 cows in a tie-stall barn and manages 145 acres.
They are involved in the community through the Oak Park 4-H Club and Cambridge FFA. The children are following in their parents’ footsteps by exhibiting at local, county and state fairs. Because of this, the Swains will have six different dairy cattle breeds on display at this year’s event!
In addition, attendees are encouraged to explore the farm, enjoy live entertainment, participate in educational activities and enjoy samplings of local, Wisconsin dairy products.
“We are excited to have the Swain family host this year’s Breakfast on the Farm,” shares Jenna Langrehr, Breakfast on the Farm Committee Member. “This will be a great opportunity for attendees to get up close and see the workings of a 100% family-run operation.”
Breakfast On The Farm Details
Tickets for this year’s Breakfast on the Farm can be purchased at the farm on the day of the event. Ticket prices for those 12 and over are $10/person, those aged 3-11 years are $5/person and those under 2 years old are free. The price of tickets includes parking, breakfast, and all entertainment and activities.
Held the second Saturday in June, Breakfast on the Farm offers breakfast and entertainment for all ages. It serves as one of the Dane County Dairy Promotion Committee’s premier, annual events. The breakfast is open to the public and offers a chance to learn about the dairy industry and its products.
