Lamb Cutout Moves $10 Higher

Prepared and written by Jeff Swenson, DATCP Livestock and Meat Specialist. The Market Update draws information from several sources, including trade publications, radio broadcasts, agricultural news services, individuals involved in the industry as well as USDA NASS and AMS reports.

Lamb

Cash lambs were called $1 higher nationally last week, although some markets reported a light test. Market ewe prices were called steady. The cutout value last Friday was nearly $10 higher than the end of the previous week at $556.32. The weekly harvest estimate of 37,000 sheep and lambs was 1,000 fewer than the previous week and 2,000 head lower than the same week last year. Lamb production is up slightly year-to-date, with sheep and lamb harvest 2.3% higher so far this year when compared to 2025. New crop lambs brought $220-268/cwt, with some to $280/cwt.
