Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative is encouraged by the new 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, announced this week by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins.
The new Dietary Guidelines emphasize the importance of consuming whole, nutrient-dense foods. These include protein, dairy, vegetables, fruit, healthy fats and whole grains. It discourages the consumption of highly processed foods, which are described as having refined grains or added sugar, refined fats and oils. As well as long, complicated ingredient lists with chemical additives like artificial sweeteners, flavor enhancers, dyes and emulsifiers.
In the USDA release, Secretary Rollins gave acknowledgement to the critical role farmers play in the production of healthy food: “At long last, we are realigning our food system to support American farmers, ranchers, and companies that grow and produce real food. Farmers and ranchers are at the forefront of the solution, and that means more protein, dairy, vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, and whole grains on American dinner tables.”
The recommendation of three servings of dairy a day, is encouraging news for dairy farmers.
