MKE-Waukesha Farmers Union Tackles The Food System

The MKE-Waukesha Chapter of the Wisconsin Farmers Union invites community members, farmers, and food access advocates to join them on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Village Farmstead in Oak Creek.

The topic? Filling Gaps in the Local Food Supply Chain: Exploring Collaborative Aggregation Strategies.

This is a free, public event focused on bringing local food stakeholders together to explore opportunities for aggregation of products, storage, transportation, and sales, as a powerful solution for making local food work at scale.

Details

Location: Village Farmstead 4020 E Fitzsimmons Rd, Oak Creek, WI 53154

Date & Time: Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Event Highlights:

  • Happy Hour with craft beverages from Central Waters Brewing, wine, and farm-sourced snacks
  • Guided farm tour of Village Farmstead
  • Panel Discussion on aggregation strategies featuring diverse voices from across the food system, including perspectives from schools, grocers, multi-stakeholder cooperatives, farmers, and food access organizations.
  • Informal networking and conversation opportunities to foster collaboration and continued dialogue.

“We need a Southeast Wisconsin food and farm system that works for all of us — farmers, institutional buyers, food access networks, restaurants, and grocers. Too often, though, the barrier to bringing local farmers’ products into these different markets is one of scale,” says Sam Odin, Milwaukee-Waukesha WFU Chapter President. “Aggregation of products, storage, transportation, and sales presents one strategy to address this challenge. At this event, we will bring together representatives from these different sectors to discuss collaborative aggregation possibilities for our community.”
