
For the week ending August 24, 2025, Wisconsin experienced 5.6 days suitable for fieldwork, allowing continued progress in harvest and crop development, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The winter wheat harvest was nearly complete, with some fields already planted for the next growing season.
Soil moisture levels remained favorable, with 82% of both topsoil and subsoil rated as adequate, and only 1% reported as very short. Corn development progressed, with 97% silking, 67% in the dough stage (slightly behind the average), and 22% dented. Corn for silage was 2% harvested, and the crop condition improved slightly to 83% rated good to excellent.
Soybeans were 96% blooming and 86% setting pods, slightly behind the typical schedule. Crop condition also improved marginally, with 83% rated good to excellent. Other crop progress included 98% of winter wheat and 80% of oats harvested. Potatoes were 28% harvested and in strong condition, with 87% rated good to excellent.
Alfalfa hay’s third cutting was nearly finished at 89%, and the fourth cutting reached 31%, significantly ahead of last year and the average. Hay condition remained steady at 81% good to excellent, and pastures were reported in solid shape, with 71% rated good to excellent.
