Farm leaders are voicing growing concern over the Trump Administration’s shifting approach to immigration enforcement, particularly as it affects the agricultural workforce.
Just a week ago, President Trump reportedly directed immigration officials to scale back enforcement targeting undocumented workers in agriculture, hospitality, and food processing industries. But that policy now appears to be in limbo, as the Department of Homeland Security has issued new guidance reversing course.
Agricultural groups say they understand the need for strong border security but stress that enforcement efforts must be paired with meaningful labor reform. They’re calling on lawmakers to use the current uncertainty as an opportunity to advance long-overdue changes—especially to the H-2A visa program, which allows farms to legally hire seasonal migrant workers.
“We need a balanced approach,” one industry leader said. “Without labor reform, enforcement alone puts our food supply at risk.”
