Farmers Welcome Rain As Crops Advance

Farmers Welcome Rain As Crops Advance

Much of the state received rainfall, which was reportedly especially welcome in southern Wisconsin. The Crop Progress and Condition report released by the USDA shares details on how things are looking.

Corn planting reached 96 percent complete. Corn emergence was at 82 percent complete, 6 days ahead of last year, but 1 day behind the 5-year average. The condition of the corn was rated 74 percent good to excellent, up 4 percentage point from last week.

Soybean are 95 percent planted with 73 percent emerged. That’s even with last year but 1 day behind the average. Soybean condition was rated 79 percent good to excellent.

The first cutting of alfalfa hay was 68 percent complete. That’s 5 days ahead of last year and 2 days ahead of the average. Winter wheat were 52 percent headed, 6 days behind last year and 1 day behind the average. Winter wheat condition was rated 70 percent good to excellent, up 3 percentage points from last week.
