Edge Encouraged By Initial Talks In UK Deal

Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative says it’s encouraged by recent announcements concerning a new trade deal with the United Kingdom.

“Edge has always advocated for opportunities for dairy through existing, expanding, or emerging markets, and this is one step forward in that direction,” says Edge CEO Tim Trotter.

Dairy cows make up a significant portion of the U.S. beef supply. So, reduced tariffs and increased market access to the United Kingdom are opportunities for growth for U.S. dairy cattle farmers.

The cooperative notes that including flexibility in the areas of sanitary and phytosanitary standards in the final negotiations will be important for capturing the benefits of the plan.

Additional access to send U.S. ethanol made with U.S. grain presents another opportunity for expanding market growth.

“We look forward to seeing additional details about the agreed-upon trade negotiations… and the potential benefits they may have for Midwest dairy farmers,” says Trotter.
