As Wisconsin soybean farmers head to the fields, they’re also preparing to enter a friendly competition. The Wisconsin Soybean Association’s 2025 Soybean Yield Contest is now open and ready for entries from across the state. This contest encourages farmers to try new practices while highlighting strong management in Wisconsin soybean production systems.
“Fundamentally, the Wisconsin Soybean Yield Contest allows growers to showcase the practices that they’re applying on their farm that maximize yield and profitability,” said Shawn Conley, WSA Director and UW-Madison agronomy professor.
Farmers in any soybean production system can participate. Two winners will be selected from each of four state regions. The regions are based on long-term county yield averages. That way, everyone competes fairly within similar yield zones. The contest also offers awards beyond yield. Categories include the Planting Green Award, New Contestant Award, as well as the WI 100 Bushel Soybean Club. Entry forms are due by August 31, 2025. Winners will be recognized at the 2026 Wisconsin Corn•Soy Expo.
“Any farmer should enter the contest,” Conley said. “There are opportunities for everyone—from long-time participants to first-timers.” He added, “It’s great to learn from your fellow farmers and also be recognized for what you’re doing on your farm.”
