Midwest Climate Summit Showcases Local Solutions

The Midwest Climate Collaborative (MCC) will be hosting its 2025 Midwest Climate Summit in Madison, Wisconsin. This major event will take place April 30 to May 2 at the University of Wisconsin’s Memorial Union. It will bring together researchers, public and private sector leaders, students, educators, and climate advocates. The goal is to share knowledge, find solutions, and build new partnerships for tackling climate change in the Midwest.

Former Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes will kick off the event as the keynote speaker on Wednesday. Barnes, now President of Forward Together Wisconsin, helped launch the MCC back in January 2022. The event includes 20 on-site workshops, six mobile workshops, and two networking receptions.

In-person registration filled quickly and closed in March, but virtual registration is still available.

“This sold-out gathering of over 300 is a testament to the energy and enthusiasm across the region,” said MCC Director Heather Navarro. She added, “People are eager to prepare for extreme weather and act now to slow climate change.”

Summit activities will include tours of Madison’s electric vehicle fleet and local agrivoltaics sites. Attendees can also explore sustainability features of the Madison Children’s Museum and more.

This is the MCC’s fifth summit and its third in-person event since the group launched in 2020. Originally formed by 20 members, the MCC now includes over 80 members across 12 Midwestern states. These members range from local governments and universities to nonprofits and businesses. Together, they aim to build a carbon-neutral, climate-resilient, and connected Midwest.
