Wollersheim Winery is the recipient of the Syngenta Farmers Award at the 2024 International Biostimulants World Congress.
The Syngenta Farmers Award shines a light on innovative growers from around the world who are redefining agriculture through science, sustainability, and stewardship. This prestigious recognition honors the winery’s forward-thinking commitment to sustainable and regenerative viticulture in the face of Wisconsin’s unique agricultural challenges.
For over 50 years, Wollersheim has cultivated grapevines in a climate marked by deep freezes, spring frosts, and high humidity. Owner and winemaker Philippe Coquard, originally from Beaujolais, France, brings a lifetime of experience to the vineyard, combining old-world expertise with innovative, nature-based growing techniques.
In 2021, Coquard, Vineyard Manager Robby Pertzborn, and Winemaker Céline Coquard Lenerz partnered with Larry Fiene of Planet Earth Agronomy in Black Earth. Under Fiene’s guidance, the team began implementing biostimulant technology — natural inputs designed to enhance the vines’ defenses against pests and disease, while improving overall soil health and vineyard resilience.
