Don’t Miss The Midwest Horse Fair!

The largest 3-day horse event in the nation is back in Madison from April 11th through the 13th. The Midwest Horse Fair gives the fair-goers unique opportunities to experience every aspect of the horse world. Teri Giannetti the Executive Director of the Midwest Horse Fair says that they expect around 800 horses to be in attendance.

“There will be over 37 different breeds and disciplines, including several rare breeds,” says Giannetti. “We started that feature last year.”

For the nearly 800 horses, there will be 5 equine veterinarians on the grounds. To go along with this, the fair has a partnership with the UW-Madison veterinary school, so there will be as many as 50 vet students as well. It is asked that for the horse’s safety to wash your hands and use hand sanitizer before petting the animals. Although, it is most important to ask the horse owners before petting.

Things To See

Giannetti says that this year’s unique horses include the Akhal-Teke, the Dales Pony, and the Nokotas. Each of these breeds have 5,000 or less left in the world. To go along with the rare breeds there will also be celebrity horses in attendance which includes a group of horses that can be seen in the hit T.V. show “Heartland”.

Also in attendance will be Amber Marshall who may be better known as Amy Flaming on the T.V. show “Heartland.” She will be a clinician with two talks. There will be other clinics throughout the fair that will help teach everything from shoeing horses to competitive driving.

“Throughout the three days, nearly 60,000 people will attend the event,” says Giannetti. “This is why it is the largest three-day horse event in the nation.”

The fair will also include evening shows including rodeos and freestyle liberty. For More information on the event visit midwesthorsefair.com.
