The Wisconsin Pork Association seeks college students interested in the swine industry who want to expand their knowledge. Students can visit https://wppa.org/youth/internship-program/ to learn more about the program. This 10-week summer internship offers an opportunity to serve as the official youth representative of the association. The WPA Youth Committee, supervised by the WPA Executive Vice President and Program Director, oversees the program.
This internship is unique, tailoring to both the intern’s interests and WPA program needs. Interns will work in several key areas, including producer outreach, promotion, and communication.
For Producer Outreach, the intern will visit commercial and niche swine operations across Wisconsin. They will engage with producers and assist with outreach and education activities.
At the Wisconsin State Fair, the intern will coordinate the Hall of Fame program and create an educational exhibit in the swine barn. They will also participate in the Camp of Champions and help manage the Pork Schoppe. The fair runs from July 31 to August 10, 2025, and the intern must be onsite from July 29 to August 11, 2025.
In Promotion and Consumer Information, the intern will help coordinate the Pork Schoppe by attending meetings, recruiting volunteers, and managing the event. Additional tasks may include foodservice projects, sampling events, and trade shows.
For Communication, the intern will connect with producers and consumers through personal interactions and group meetings. They will also write articles for WPA publications like Pork Express, Headlines, and social media. Strong communication skills are preferred and will improve during the internship. Familiarity with social media is important.
