Wisconsin Farm to Table’s 10th annual event will be Aug. 10 at Creamery Creek Farms in Bangor. Tickets are on sale now with limited availability.
“The event is designed to connect consumers and farmers through an exceptional on-farm culinary experience,” says Kari Blazei, Wisconsin Farm to Table committee chair. “Guests will explore the taste of Wisconsin’s agricultural diversity from prestigious cheeses, meats, vegetables, and beyond.”
The Chef
Chef Chanse Schomber will prepare and present the evening’s creations. From humble beginnings of washing dishes at the age of 15, he quickly climbed the ladder. He became executive chef at the Central House in Chilton at the age of 23. After only three months, he purchased the Central House. Four years later, he opened a banquet hall at the Juneau Community Center.
Schomber enjoys teaching at cooking schools and is an experienced watermelon sculptor. He has carved more than 1,300 unique watermelon sculptures. Not only does he love food, but he loves the variety of people that food has led him to.
The Farm
Creamery Creek Farms is a partnership between two families, the Petersons and Hansens. The farm originated in 2010. It gets its name from the creek running through the farm and a local creamery that operated at the turn of the 20th century.
They milk around 700 dairy cows, and raise beef cattle for dry-aged beef and Duroc pigs for pork. The families are focused on connecting consumers with where their food comes from. They sell their array of products directly to consumers on their website and participate in local farmers markets.
Proceeds from the Wisconsin Farm to Table dinner go towards a charity of the host farm’s choosing. This year, Creamery Creek Farms, has chosen Project MILK, a charity that provides powdered milk to Casa Hogar Juan Pablo II Orphanage in Lurin, Peru.
The Farm to Table dinner begins at 4:30 p.m., with farm tours, a cheese reception and live music entertainment. The catered dinner begins at 6 p.m., complemented by a program featuring the local farmers who helped provide the evening’s fare.
