The Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association will host its annual Summer Tour at four different stops in eastern Wisconsin on June 29.
The first stop will be at Riveredge Farms near Chilton. Established in 1921, Riveredge Farms was originally a dairy operation. It transitioned in the late ‘90s to raising beef cattle and cash crops. The third and fourth generations of the Geiser family operate the farm. It runs approximately 55 Registered Simmental and SimAngus cows, feeds out their calves, and directly markets beef locally. Tour attendees will see all aspects of the diverse operation and the new bedded pack barn.
After Riveredge, the tour will head to Denmark to visit Nysse Land and Cattle. This family farm feeds out between 1,800 and 2,200 head of native beef cattle per year. Cattle come from various regions of the U.S. Cattle arrive and leave in semi-load lots, purchased by larger packing plants. The feed rations include a home-raised corn and corn silage diet supplemented with various by-product feeds. Cattle are housed mainly in open-front monoslope buildings and open concrete lots with windbreaks.
The third stop will be Ebert Enterprises in Algoma. Ebert Enterprises is a seventh-generation dairy, beef, and cropping farm. Randy and Renee Ebert began developing their herd of dairy cows in 1997. They continue milking today in a rotary parlor while raising value-added beef. Farming near Lake Michigan, the Eberts nurture the land and grow corn, alfalfa, sorghum, triticale, and small grains. Their entities include Salmon’s Meat Products, a retail and wholesale smoked-meat-products business in Luxemburg. Their meat-harvesting facility is where they harvest their animals to supply the beef needs at Salmon’s. They are devoted to connecting the farm-to-fork concept. They opened Homestead Kitchen & Tap, a farm-to-table restaurant two miles from the farm.
The final stop will be at Homestead Kitchen & Tap. Randy and Renee, along with their children, Jordan and Whitney, designed and built the restaurant.
The tour will also have special guest speakers. This includes Region III National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Policy Division Committee Member Charlie Besher. The tour will also recognize the 2024 Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association award and scholarship recipients.
Lunch, dinner appetizers, and drinks are provided on the tour. Attendees will be responsible for their own transportation throughout the day. Registration for this one-day program and meals is $50, or $45 per attendee for groups of four or more. Register here: https://www.wisconsincattlemen.com/events/summer-tour. Questions?
