Milk production in Wisconsin during February 2023 totaled 2.45 billion pounds, up slightly from the previous February according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Milk Production report.
The average number of milk cows during February, at 1.27 million head, was unchanged from last month but down 3,000 from February 2022. Monthly production per cow averaged 1,925 pounds, up 10 pounds from last February.
Taking a look at 24 major milk producing states, production totaled 16.9 billion pounds, up 1.0 percent from February 2022. Production per cow in those states averaged 1,892 pounds for February, 7 pounds above February 2022.
Milk production in the United States during February totaled 17.7 billion pounds, up 0.8 percent from February 2022.
Production per cow in the United States averaged 1,877 pounds for February, 7 pounds above February 2022.
The number of milk cows on farms in the United States was 9.42 million head, 37,000 head more than February 2022, and 12,000 head more than January 2023.
