UW Discovery Farms Director Passes

UW Discovery Farms Director Eric Cooley passed away at home in Sturgeon Bay on Feb. 22, surrounded by his family, after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 51-years-old.

As the director of the UW Discovery Farms, Eric was able to combine his passion for the outdoors with his passion for conservation and sustainability, through research and education, reads his obituary. His research and data articles are published in many science journals.

“Eric’s work as the director of UW Discovery Farms had a profound impact on Wisconsin agriculture. His research helped to advance economic and environmental progress on farms and enhanced communications among the agricultural community and policymakers,” says Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation President Kevin Krentz. “He was a true friend to agriculture and will be greatly missed.”

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 4 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay at 11 am with Fr. Robert Stegmann as celebrant. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy and the Weber-Tess AMVETS Post 51. On Friday, March 3, visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay.  On Saturday, March 4, visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Eric’s memory to DOOR CANcer: https://www.doorcancer.com/
