For producers curious about carbon markets and its opportunities for their businesses, the PDPW Carbon Conference will explore the various aspects of the fast-growing carbon sector. Presented by Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW), the conference will be held Tue., Jan. 31, 2023, at the Sheraton Hotel in Madison, Wis, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and concluding at 4:45 p.m.
“The conversation around carbon and its widespread impact is taking center stage across the world, and dairy producers and industry professionals need to be at the forefront in understanding the opportunities, challenges and risks in this ever-evolving space,” said Fox Lake, Wis., dairy producer and PDPW board president Katy Schultz. “For dairy producers the options can be overwhelming, so we’re excited to bring together top experts to provide resources, insights and information to help farmers make informed decisions.”
Conference sessions are designed to answer questions today’s producers are asking as they review options for their farms, including the potential financial impact and how carbon programs might fit into existing business plans and future goals. A key focus will be understanding how one’s carbon footprint is calculated so dairy producers can determine their baseline number and evaluate how various practices will impact their farm’s footprint and finances.
Conference presenters include:
- Patrick Wood is founder of Ag Methane Advisors, a niche consulting firm that has worked with livestock producers to identify and capture benefits of reducing greenhouse-gas emissions.
- Katie Catron is lead agronomist with Sustainable Environmental Consultants (SEC), with a background in clarifying data needed to improve sustainable practices that impact soil health, water quality, biodiversity and more.
- Jamie MacKinnon is senior vice president with Anew and leader of Anew’s agri-carbon business across North America. MacKinnon has pioneered innovative solutions including the design and implementation of a first-of-its-kind carbon-finance program for farms adopting regenerative practices.
- Ryan Stockwell is a north central Wisconsin crop producer and senior manager for grower engagement at Indigo Ag. Stockwell also brings his expertise as the former director of sustainable agriculture at the National Wildlife Foundation.
- Nate Schuster develops new carbon market projects for 3Degrees and has experience across a variety of sectors and industries. Schuster has also supported the development of carbon projects from several innovative manure-management technologies including vermifiltration, chemical flocculants and advanced solid-separation systems.
