Dairy Institute Third Tier Highlights Financials

Introducing a third tier with its 2022 installation of Dairy Managers Institute®, this manager-development program presented by Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) now includes a suite of training to help attendees master financials and negotiations on their dairy. Designed to equip dairy producers and team managers with the tools they need to become successful leaders, the two-day intensive program will be held Dec. 20-21 at Kalahari Resorts in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tues., Dec. 20, and conclude at 4:00 p.m. on Wed., Dec. 21, 2022.

“Dairy Managers Institute builds on the core competencies producers need so they can lead successful teams of employees who are excited to show up to work every day,” said Katy Schultz, Fox Lake, Wis. dairy producer and PDPW board president. “This is the only three-tiered management program solely focused on the unique needs of dairy farmers. Plus, tiers one and two are also offered with simultaneous Spanish translation.”

“Our employees really appreciate the simultaneous translation, since many of them never had the chance to learn leadership concepts in schools where they grew up,” said Rosario Ibarra, general manager of Grotegut Dairy Farm, Inc., Newton, Wis. “Learning in their native language keeps them involved, engaged and able to actively participate.”

Each successive tier will focus on management fundamentals as follows:

  • Tier One: Lead and Manage with Insight. Leadership starts with knowing yourself, how you manage in typical times and times of stress, and how to make the most of your personality and communication style. Tier One is led by Dr. Becky Stewart-Gross, PhD, president and founder of Building Bridges Seminars. Simultaneous Spanish translation will be available for this tier.
  • Tier Two: Discover the Art of Coaching. Create a culture that clearly shows your team believes their work is more than a job. This tier will help attendees use their skills to build a team of people who want to be at work for a shared goal, not just to collect a paycheck. Tier Two is led by Michael Hoffman, founder and owner of Igniting Performance, Inc. Simultaneous Spanish translation will be available for this tier.
  • Tier Three: Mastering Financials and Negotiations. Build confidence in your financial abilities and negotiation skills to effectively manage choices around personnel matters, commodity and supply pricing, contract renewals and adjustments, vendor relationships, short- and long-term planning, and more. Tier Three is led by Dr. Kevin Bernhardt, PhD, agribusiness professor at UW-Platteville School of Agriculture and farm management specialist with UW Extension and Center for Dairy Profitability, and Linda Swindling, JS, CSP, author and former law firm partner and mediator.

While not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged for attendees to participate in Dairy Managers Institute following the tiered order chronologically. Registration cost includes program materials and meals; lodging not included. To learn more and to register, visit www.PDPW.org or contact PDPW at 800-947-7379
