Gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels has received the endorsement of Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation’s political action arm, the Volunteers for Agriculture. VFA also released endorsements for Attorney General and more candidates in State Assembly and Senate races for the Nov. 8 general election.
The VFA Committee is made up of 18 farmers appointed by the WFBF’s Board of Directors.
Gubernatorial candidates were invited to interview with the VFA Committee on Sept. 15. Following his interview and a private discussion amongst the committee, the VFA made the decision to endorse Michels.
“Our members believe Tim Michels is a strong supporter of Wisconsin’s agricultural community,” says WFBF Governmental Relations Innovation and Engagement Strategist Karen Gefvert. “When interviewed by our committee of farmers from across the state, Tim expressed strong support of farmers and rural Wisconsin.”
Michels’ endorsement comes from his support and understanding of Wisconsin’s Right to Farm law, strong support for existing use value assessment laws, and the needs agriculture has for dependable roads and bridges for product transportation.
The VFA Committee has also endorsed Eric Toney for Attorney General in the Nov. 8 election.
“Eric Toney understands that farmers work hard to abide by the law while being good stewards of the environment, an understanding that will serve Wisconsin agriculture well in our next Attorney General. He also understands that agriculture is the backbone of Wisconsin’s economy,” says Gefvert. “This understanding as well as his dedication to uphold the law and commitment to public safety are key components that led to his support by the Volunteers for Agriculture.”
In the State Senate, the VFA endorsed Rachael Cabral-Guevara (R-Appleton), 19th Senate District.
The VFA endorsed two candidates in the State Assembly:
Terry Katsma (R-Oostburg), 26th Assembly District
Calvin Callahan (R-Tomahawk), 35th Assembly District
