The 2022-2023 Wisconsin Maple Syrup Producers Association Marketing Intern is Alicia Baroun.
Baroun has been involved in the association for about five years. She owns a maple syrup and honey business, and has been making syrup since she was young. She is also a senior at UW-Green Bay, studying business, entrepreneurship and accounting.
“I’m excited about beginning my yearlong internship,” she says. “I’m looking forward to promoting maple syrup, becoming even more involved in the association, and visiting different maple syrup operations across the state.”
Baroun is the granddaughter of Don and Evelyn Van Deurzen, and the daughter of Jon and Theresa Baroun.
The WMSPA says there was a great pool of candidates for the position. The organization encourages the applicants to apply again next year. Each year, applicants submit a resume and an essay on their involvement in the maple industry. Then a team of judges performs an interview with the candidates. And selects the next intern.
