Consumers love choices and new products. Innovative products featuring dairy as the star, in particular those boasting the calming effects of dairy are being sought out in a competition among college students. Rohit Kapoor is the Vice President of Product Research at Dairy Management Inc. the national milk check off organization, He shares how DMI is helping to fuel the innovation fire with their Dairy Products Contest.
As the Vice President of Product Research, Rohit works under the National Dairy Council umbrella. As part of his job, he is an organizer of the New Dairy Products competition. The competition is open to college students across the U.S. Not only do they hope the contest inspires students to move forward in the dairy industry, but the products presented inspire dairy processors to develop new products and bring them to market.
Every year the contest changes the theme for the products it seeks, with themes based off of current food trends This year the contest is focusing on products that feature the calming effects of dairy. Rohit shares that with the focus on wellness and stress reduction amongst consumers, and research showing that dairy has a positive effect on stress, this year’s theme is a natural fit to inspire products that consumers are looking for.
Beyond just the products, the competition also ignites a passion for dairy in college students. Something Rohit knows well, as he participated in the contest as a grad school student. He shares that the skills he learned really prepared him for his future career. Winners of the competition also receive cash prizes for their efforts.
