GrassWorks, Inc. the Midwest’s farmer-driven grazing organization, is in search of a new Executive Director. After 10 years at the helm, Jill Hapner is retiring and the GrassWorks board is eager to engage the right person to help lead the organization into its next 30 years. With a strong foundation of farmer-to-farmer learning, networking and community building, their goal is to work with the right person to grow the organization and build capacity to serve their membership and the nearly 3000 people in 30+ states they reach.
“When I started in April of 2012, the position was intended to be temporary, very part-time and to provide stable transition in a period of waning annual funding,” said Hapner. “My “temporary” position stretched to 10+ productive years and I am now excited to announce my retirement in the coming months.”
This is an exciting time for GrassWorks because funding opportunities for managed grazing education and technical assistance have greatly increased. So, this is the ideal time for the organization to transition again; this time by filling a full-time permanent Executive Director position.
“It is my honor to assist with the transition and pass on my dedication to the mission of this organization to the next generation of leaders and innovators,” said Hapner.
Over the years, GrassWorks has managed well with a part-time executive director, an active, engaged farmer-led board of directors, and strong partnerships with state and federal agencies, the University of Wisconsin and technical colleges. With funding from a new foundation grant, the organization is able to make the Executive Director position full-time for at least three years, ensuring that the board and Executive Director have a runway to build capacity and momentum. The position will be remote and is offered at 75 to 100% time with benefits. Work commitment, schedule, and salary are negotiable.

“It has been my great honor and privilege to serve as Executive Director of GrassWorks for the past decade,” said Hapner. “I could not be more excited about what’s next for this remarkable organization. Apply for this fantastic position today!”
