A series of upcoming workshops will encourage those who care about rural Wisconsin to share their stories about the issues affecting family farms and rural communities. “Get Loud: Speaking Up for Rural Wisconsin” kicks off in August with three workshops.
The events are being organized by Wisconsin Farmers Union, with support from local chapters and the Wisconsin Farmer Veteran Coalition.
Attendees will learn how to authentically and powerfully tell their story to build power and raise awareness. Each event will cover the importance of storytelling, how to connect personal stories with collective interest, and practical skills for elevating rural issues through storytelling. Each event is free and open to the public.
Whether you’re a seasoned storyteller or are uncertain if you even have a story to tell, this training is for you. Upcoming workshops include:
NEW RICHMOND – August 21st, 1:30 to 4pm, New Richmond American Legion, 1260 Wall Street. Co-hosted by the Farmer Veteran Coalition of Wisconsin and by the Barron, Pepin-Pierce, Polk-Burnett, and St. Croix Farmers Union chapters.
CHIPPEWA FALLS – August 22nd, 1:30 to 4pm, Wisconsin Farmers Union new building, 128 W. River Street. Co-hosted by the Chippewa, Dunn, and Eau Claire Farmers Union chapters.
VIRTUAL – August 29th, 6-8pm. Co-hosted by National Farmers Union.
“Personal stories are a powerful way to bring pertinent facts and figures about an issue to life and to prompt people to care about issues in a way that simple details and numbers cannot do by themselves,” says WFU Communications Specialist Julian Emerson. “Storytelling is an effective means of showing how events or situations impact people’s lives, and sometimes such stories can lead to positive change.”
