After many colleges experienced a lull in enrollment during the pandemic years, this first “normal” year out of the pandemic could cause increased fall enrollment. The UW-Platteville School of Agriculture has already noticed this trend headed into the fall.
Charles Steiner is the Interim Dean of the College of Business, Industry, Life Science, and Agriculture (BILSA) at UW-Platteville. He shares more about enrollment numbers for this fall and trends in enrollment and programs.
Steiner says that new freshmen enrollment is right around 130 students, although that number could fluctuate once classes start. This number is up from the two pandemic years.
However, total enrollment is down from the 800 students enrolled in the School of Ag around 2014-15. Steiner says that he hopes to continue to boost enrollment and canvas for students in new areas, but he does not think they will hit that number.
While there are no new programs or changes to existing programs this year, the school continues to see popularity with its Dairy Science program that was added about 5 years ago.
