This year’s strawberry growing season has been nothing short of challenging, to say the least. Between various spring weather conditions, supply chain disruptions, and inflation, strawberry producers have been through it all this year.
Darrell Schoeneberg owns and operates Creek Bed Country Farmacy in Poynette. He shares more about how the strawberry crop has looked this year and details his business.
Schoeneberg says that this year’s strawberry yield is only 50% of what was produced last year. Everything was two weeks behind throughout the growing season due to wild spring weather. The strawberries did not have much of a chance for a strong bloom.
“It’s been a challenge, but usually it makes up for it sometime during the summer” adds Schoeneberg about this years’ strawberry yield and rough growing season. “Hopefully we’ll catch up”.
Looking ahead, Schoeneberg shares that he still has a focus on educating the public about where their food comes from and providing a high quality product that will bring visitors back again. He says that there is a lot of labor involved in producing a wide variety of products, but each year brings something new for visitors to enjoy.
