There is great concern about the tens of thousands of acres in Wisconsin that may be taken out of agricultural production and into wind and solar production. As more land is being converted away from agriculture production, the FARM Act is helping to combat that.
Congressman Tom Tiffany has played a vital role in the FARM Act, ensuring farm families are able to pass their farm onto future generations and the Wolf Delisting Bill. He shared more on his work with pressing agriculture issues.
“Food production is the most important thing we do as a society and we need to make sure that we are not reducing the amount of agricultural land we have here in Wisconsin,” adds Tiffany.
Tiffany says that there is a pass through legislation that would take away tax deduction for those transferring their farm from generation to generation. It would be very harmful for small businesses, especially family farms, as many want to pass their work onto their children and they would be hit with taxes. A lot of family farmers are getting to retirement age with children that want to takeover and they are concerned they wont be able to do so.
Tiffany adds, “It’s the worst thing we can do to our family farms in operation here in our country because the tax burdens would be so heavy that people would have to sell their farms and not to their children.”
Tiffany is also busy with the Wolf Delisting Bill that would help return wolf management to the state. It will help farmers as the wolves are churning farmers’ livestock up and causing a reduction in milk production or for them to not have their normal rate of gain.
It helps farmers control the wolves and benefit their production. It’s not about the elimination of wolves, it’s about controlling the population.
